Jordan Luciano
Jordan Luciano is a landscape photographer who travels and hikes through Europe for his photos. In each of Jordan's photos he tries to portray the emotions he was feeling at that particular time. Jordan Luciano focuses on the decay of nature and the subsequent re-growth and rebirth of the nature. To capture his photographs, Jordan Luciano challenges his body physically through the hiking he does. He believes that by challenging his body and the fatigue that is a result, exposes his ability as a photographer and those are when his best images are produced.
In these photos that I have chosen to put on my blog, Jordan Luciano is comparing man-made stairs and stairs that have been formed by nature. The stairs that are completely nature based have been formed by dead tree branches embedded in the ground as well as tree roots that have been exposed from the earth. I have chosen Jordan Luciano as one of my photographers because he explores nature and man-made things which is something that I am doing in my work. However instead of exploring naturally made stairs compared to man-made stairs, I am exploring how nature is taking over man-made stairs and claiming it for it's own.
Analysis
This photo is of steps that have been formed in the forest naturally. I chose to analyse this image because the idea of stairs that have been formed naturally fits in with my project and it is an interesting thought. The contrast that is created with the brown and green colours in the images give it more depth and purpose. Jordan Luciano has used natural light in this image to highlight certain parts of the image sich as the barks of wood and the light beyond the image.
Response
To respond to Jordan Luciano's work, I took a picture of naturally formed stairs as Jordan Luciano has done. Whereas Jordan's image of the stairs that have been formed by nature are far more developed, my image is of the stairs in their first stages of being formed. Therefore the branches and roots are not as thick and so the stairs are not as well defined, however over time, the branches and roots will grow and eventually these stairs will be as defined as the ones in Jordan Luciano's images.
