Kirt Tisdale
Kurt Tisdale is an artist and photographer who has been working with landscape photography for over thirty years. He is based in Seattle which is where these images were taken. Both sets of stairs were created using stone and metal, however as I want to showcase in my work, nature has taken over the stairs.
Kirt Tisdale is a photographer I chose to research because his photos of stairs covered by nature fits in with my theme of nature versus man made structures.
Analysis
This photo is of a set of stairs that have been found in a forest. They are concealed by various trees and shrubbery and the actual stairs have been covered with moss and weeds. The colour from the moss and the leaves creates a contrast with the bark of the tress and the actual stairs themselves. The photo has been taken from a distance allowing the viewer to see that the stairs are hidden by the nature around them. This photo shows that nature has taken over the man-made artifical stairs and that the nature is out of control. The barks of the trees as well as the different leaves and moss creates a lot of texture within the image. There is a lot of rough texture coming from the barks and then soft texture coming from the moss on the barks which creates a lot of contrast in texture within the image.
